Foothill Ranch is a smaller master-planned community comprised of nearly 11,000 residents
in South Orange County. It became annexed into Lake Forest in 2000. Foothill Ranch is
comprised of 2,700 acres of mixed business, open space and residential use, near the Santa
Ana and San Diego freeways. Foothill Ranch also has convenient train access for commuters.
The local Foothill Ranch Community Park is approximately 16 acres and has two baseball
diamonds with two soccer fields and a game watching area. Meandering trails, barbeques
complete with outdoor eating areas, two sand volleyball courts and tennis courts, a roller
hockey court, and two play lots with age-defined equipment add to the charm of this
neighborhood park. Restroom facilities and a parking lot make for ease of use, as well. Local
elementary through high school students attend Saddleback Unified School District.
Mission Viejo
Mission Viejo is one of the largest master planned communities in the United States, housing more than 100,000 people. It is located between the Lake Forest/Trabuco Canyon area and San Juan Capistrano and Rancho Santa Margarita and Laguna Niguel in South Orange County. The center of the city is defined by its man-made lake, Lake Mission Viejo.
In 2007, Mission Viejo was named the safest city in the United States by the Morgan Quitno crime survey. Largely residential and family-oriented, Mission Viejo is also home to Mission Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Orange County and many well-known successful businesses.
Mission Viejo residents are actively involved in team sports, and boast the largest AYSO region in the country. Soccer and baseball games can be seen at the Mission Viejo Youth Athletic Park on a regular basis. Swimming and bicycling are also strong favorites of the community, and Mission Viejo hosted several events in the 1984 Summer Olympics. The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, The Mission Viejo Country Club, Casa del Sol Golf Course, and the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club are other highlights in this active community.
Two school districts, Capistrano Unified and Saddleback Valley Unified serve Mission Viejo, providing 15 elementary schools, 3 intermediate/middle schools, and 5 high schools. Saddleback College is also located in Mission Viejo.
Aliso Viejo
Aliso Viejo is a vibrant, diverse, growing community located in Orange County, nestled between Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills and Laguna Niguel and Laguna Woods. Ladera Ranch
Ladera Ranch is a master plan community spanning 4,000 acres, bordered by San Juan Capistrano, Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo, in South Orange County. A very safe, family oriented community, Ladera Ranch is full of smaller neighborhoods that make up ten villages. Almost 24,000 people reside in Ladera Ranch, with an additional 3,500 residents in the gated Covenant Hills Village.
Each village has parks, playgrounds and pools, and many have clubhouses. Rancho Santa Margarita
Rancho Santa Margarita is a large master planned community amidst rolling hills in beautiful South Orange County. With a population of almost 50,000, this community, located between Mission Viejo and the Cleveland National Forest, and Las Flores/Coto de Caza and Trabuco Canyon is bustling!
Individual homeowners associations govern various areas of Rancho Santa Margarita. The largest association, Rancho Santa Margarita Landscape and Recreation Corporation (SAMLARC), regulates 13 parks, 4 pools, the lagoon and lake, as well as many of the community trails. Many community events are held in the well-loved Central and Canada Vista Parks. The guard-gated Dove Canyon and Rancho Cielo, as well as Robinson Ranch are smaller communities inside Rancho Santa Margarita.
